What are
Carbon Fiber Hoods?
For the most part,
Carbon Fiber Hoods are made of
Carbon Fiber material which consists of thin material made of carbon atoms. These "fibers" are weaved together to achieve the 3D look which is similar to a basket weave. Compared to a stock OEM Metal hood,
hoods made of Carbon Fiber are generally much lighter - up to 50%
As a result of the
hoods being much lighter, Bodykits.com strongly recommends the use of
hoods safety pins. This will prevent the
hood from opening in the event that there is problems with your hood latch.
Most
Carbon Fiber Hoods already have UV Clear Coating to prevent the
hoods from fading. Usually when ordering
hoods, you can just install it right away without having to paint it like fiberglass and urethane parts.
Most people purchase
Carbon Fiber Hoods in the aftermarket car industry for aesthetic reasons only. For added strength and durability, most
carbon fiber hood manufacturers like
VIS Racing, Seibon, Kaminari and JSP add a fiberglass skeleton on the bottom half of the Carbon Fiber Hoods.
Different styles of
Carbon Fiber hoods are available but the more popular hoods include:
OEM Style Carbon Hoods
Invader Carbon Hoods (Single Vent)
EVO Carbon Hoods
VSII Carbon Hoods
XGT Carbon Hoods
Each hood has a unique style/scoop to set your car, truck, SUV apart from the rest.
